In-person Workshop: Microinsurance for Microfinance Institutions – October 2021

Earlier this year, we partnered with Appui au Développement Autonome (ADA), BRS, Association for Microfinance Institutions of Zambia (AMIZ) and FSD Zambia to organize a workshop on Microinsurance for Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). This culminated in a 4-day in-person workshop in Lusaka at Palmwood Lodge from 4th to 7th October 2021. The workshop attracted 23 participants from 10 institutions made up of 6 MFIs, 3 insurers, and 1 Fintech company.

The aim of the workshop was to encourage Insurers and MFIs to collaborate in developing, designing, and distributing microinsurance products that respond to the different needs of the low-income population. The low-income population is a  target market which both groups have recognized and needed guidance on how to scale efforts. The training emphasized the Human-Centered Design approach.  As a result, participants went to an open-air market in Lusaka (Kaunda Square Markert) where the ideas they learned were tested and prototypes developed.

We continue to engage the participants and remain available to offer technical support where required.
